Why Clear Aligners Are Reshaping Orthodontics and How They Are Changing Oral Health

Clear aligners are not just a cosmetic upgrade; they are a redefinition of what orthodontic care looks like in the 21st century. As global demand for discreet, flexible alternatives to traditional braces skyrockets, patients are driving a new standard for how orthodontic care should feel, function, and fit into daily life. Yet beneath the surface appeal lies a more complex truth: clear aligners introduce their own set of challenges. And that’s precisely where innovation in oral care, led by companies like PUL Dental, is becoming essential.

“People think clear aligners are a one-off solution,” says Kaivon Talai, co-founder of PUL Dental. “But what they don’t see is how difficult they can be to manage without the right support tools. A big part of the success of the treatment comes down to compliance with the treatment protocols. That could mean wearing the aligners for around a minimum of 20 hours per day.”

Founded in 2017 and weathering the early turbulence of a pandemic market, PUL Dental is now positioned as one of the global leaders in ancillary care for clear aligner patients. Registered with the FDA and partnerships with some of the major aligner brands, the company has become a critical player in a booming over $5 billion industry growing at 15% CAGR.

The appeal of clear aligners is obvious: they are removable, nearly invisible, and, unlike traditional braces, don’t require metal brackets cemented to the teeth. For teens and adults alike, aligners are becoming the preferred choice. But this convenience comes at a cost.

“Clear aligners are tight by design; they are engineered to move bone,” Talai explains. “That means they can be hard to put on and even harder to remove, especially for patients with limited dexterity or discomfort. That’s where we saw the gap.”

PUL Dental filled that gap with a simple but revolutionary idea: a dual-function tool that helps users seat their aligners correctly and remove them safely. The patented device, which combines a sliding chewable device, called the Chewtool, to express aligner movement with a removal hook, directly addresses the two most common frustrations among users: compliance and accessibility. This tool allows better compliance, reduced pain, and improved hygiene while fixing or removing the clear aligner.

But the PUL Dental ecosystem goes further than one device. Talai and his team have developed a full suite of products designed to tackle the often-overlooked realities of clear aligner treatment. Effervescent cleaning tablets address hygiene concerns. Biodegradable floss picks make on-the-go oral care more accessible. A patented custom case ties the ecosystem together, giving patients a travel-friendly solution that supports every step of their treatment journey.

“We are focused on quality of life,” says Talai. “It’s not just about making your teeth straighter. It’s about helping people feel confident, stay healthy, stay motivated during treatment, and maintain the results for the long term.”

Retention, in particular, is a misunderstood phase of the orthodontic experience. While many patients assume their responsibility ends when the aligners come off, the reality is quite the opposite: wearing retainers nightly, for life, is critical to preserving the progress achieved.

“Relapse is real,” Talai says. “A lot of adults go through orthodontic treatment again in their 30s or 40s because they stopped wearing their retainers in their teens. That’s a painful and costly cycle. We are here to break it.”

PUL Dental’s go-to-market strategy reflects its global ambitions. With distribution channels serving aligner companies, dental practices, and direct-to-consumer markets worldwide, and with a growing and ambitious product roadmap, the brand is scaling on multiple fronts. And while the company has not previously relied on PR or traditional marketing, Talai sees this new phase of awareness-building as pivotal to their next chapter.

“Our products have already been used by many around the world,” he says. “Now we want the world to know why.”

At its core, PUL Dental is not just riding the wave of clear aligner popularity; it’s helping to shape it. As more patients seek alternatives to traditional braces and as the realities of long-term treatment come into sharper focus, companies like PUL Dental are bridging the gap between aesthetics, accountability, comfort, compliance, and quality of life.

What was once a niche has become a movement. And in that movement, smart tools, not just smart smiles, are leading the way.
